About
Capable. Experienced. Interested.
I am curious – about lots of things: people, events that happened in the past, things that are happening now. Whether it’s social issues or scientific discoveries, I enjoy thinking about new ideas.

I am particularly interested in stories that explore the quirky, connected and complicated world around us, and in initiatives that seek to make our world a better place.

Once, I was a teacher. I’ve also been a university lecturer, corporate trainer, crisis response facilitator, museum educator and a media educator. I’ve even done a stint as a fisheries educator showing off how to find the gonads of an oyster. I guess you could say that I like the whole teaching and learning space, which is why so much of my writing is education focused.

More recently, while working within the not-for-profit sector, I was involved in social policy analysis and advocacy. This honed my skills around sensitively recording and telling the stories of people struggling with poverty, family violence, homelessness and other forms of disadvantage. My own life experience includes migration, being a disability carer, single mum and a foster parent, and these factors contributed to my strong sense of social justice. I have a deep respect for individual rights, democratic values and cultural diversity, and I understand the complexities of identity and belonging within a multicultural society.

I specialise in diverse forms of non-fiction, business and education writing, but at heart I am a storyteller; I write to engage and inspire an audience, captivate their imagination, and create a sense of connection.

As an educator and former non-English speaker, I understand the sense of exclusion that comes through lack of understanding. Thus, above all in my writing, I seek to be clear and to make the complicated simple. I don’t believe that a reader should work in order to comprehend.

I write to pay the bills, but I also write for fun. In my spare time, I write books. I love to explore the world through words.
What do you love and care about?
Let me help you write about it.
